The brilliantly decorated sugar skulls that decorate our newest Club Chaos Hoodies are reminiscent of the handmade skulls (calaveras de azucar) made of sugar and clay that many Mexican Families made on the Day of The Dead, (Dia de los Muertos). The Sugar Skulls, along with food, treats, beverages and other favorite dishes of the departed relative or friend are set out on an altar on “The Day of the Dead” in anticipation of a visit from the deceased relative who hopefully has been attracted back to earth to partake in the feast set out out for him. The history and tradition date back to the time of the Aztecs, the powerful civilization who ruled over all in Mexico until they were overrun by the Spanish conquistadors.
